Hailing from Los Angeles, she started her journalism career working at CNN in Atlanta before moving to Hong Kong. She joined TVB after graduating from the JMSC — and has won multiple awards.

Paavan Mathema and Sonia Awale, who studied at the JMSC on full scholarship, are making a difference in Nepal’s male-dominated media landscape. Paavan now serves as the Kathmandu bureau chief for Agence France-Presse, the French international news agency, while Sonia has risen through the ranks to become executive editor of Nepali Times, the country’s leading English-language weekly.

Alexandra Hoegberg pivoted from journalism to a career in life science communication when she returned to Sweden. She first worked as the head of global communications for Uppsala Monitoring Centre, which runs the WHO’s medicines and vaccines safety surveillance programme. After a stint at SwedenBIO, the association for the Swedish life science industry, Alexandra serves as the director of marketing and communications for Clinical Trial Consultants, a research organisation that conducts clinical trials for pharma firms.

I felt HKU offered the best option for me because of JMSC’s commitment to journalistic ethics and principles, the diverse and reputable faculty, and the chance to gain hands-on experience in a historically and politically significant city.
