JMSC Receives $32 Million Donation From Shum Family

The Journalism and Media Studies Centre (JMSC) has received a donation of HK$ 32.1 million from its longtime benefactor, the late Mrs Lee Shum Shuk Yuen.  JMSC Director Professor Ruby Yang announced the donation during the JMSC’s 25th anniversary celebration on Saturday, June 8.  "Over the past year, Professor Yang has served as the Interim Director of the Centre with passion and visionary leadership, which has played a pivotal role in fostering sustainable growth and strengthening the Centre's position," said Professor Ming Wen, the Dean of Social Sciences.

Professor Ruby Yang Officially Appointed as JMSC Director

Professor Ruby Yang will officially start her two-year tenure as the JMSC Director on 1 July. The appointment has been approved by the HKU President and Vice-Chancellor. "Over the past year, Professor Yang has served as the Interim Director of the Centre with passion and visionary leadership, which has played a pivotal role in fostering sustainable growth and strengthening the Centre's position," said Professor Ming Wen, the Dean of Social Sciences.

JMSC Partners with Peking University

JMSC director Ruby Yang and Chen Gang, dean of the School of Journalism and Communications at Peking University, signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) in Beijing. Under the MOU, the two schools will collaborate in student exchanges, summer workshops, joint research programmes and seminars, and academic staff exchanges.

MJ Generative AI Project Awarded at Infinite Frames Film Festival

Congratulations to our MJ students Sun Yiran, Cai Yutong and Jian Yue for winning second place at Infinite Frames – Students’ Short Film Festival with their Generative AI music video Neon.  JMSC Director Ruby Yang and filmmaker Uli Gaulke also shared their insights on Generative AI applications in the film industry at the festival

JMSC Partners with Nanjing University

JMSC director Ruby Yang welcomed a delegation from Nanjing University: Ms Zhu Jiangli, deputy dean of the School of Journalism and Communication; Ji Xiaomin, director of students affairs; and Wang Xiao, assistant professor. During the visit, the JMSC and Nanjing University signed a memorandum of understanding. Under the MOU, the two schools will collaborate in student exchanges, summer workshops, joint research programmes and seminars, and academic staff exchanges.
