The JMSC’s programme of Media Academy for Pros (MAP) is underway and proving as popular as ever.
MAP courses are aimed at working journalists and other professionals, as well as college and university students wishing to expand their skills and also gain a taste of the world of journalism and communications.
The JMSC prides itself on the quality of its courses which are held in small classes with plenty of hands-on attention and immediate skills training. We use the highest calibre of teaching staff, all of whom are either existing media professionals or senior academics.
Honorary Lecturer, Barry Kalb, who has had a long career in print and radio in America, Europe and Asia, is well known for his courses on the use of good English. Kalb’s recent two-day MAP course, You Can Write Better English, was fully subscribed.
In this course, Kalb looked at the errors that native Chinese speakers routinely make when writing in English, how these mistakes should be corrected, and why good written English is essential in today’s globalised world.
It was attended by students, university professors, marketing managers and the directors of businesses.
“Barry offered both professional and practical advice to deal with commonly found mistakes made by the native Chinese community,” said Zoe Ho, Executive Officer of the Knowledge Exchange Office, the University of Hong Kong, who attended the course. “More importantly, he critically pinpointed what better English is.”
He has won awards from groups such as the American National Press Photographers Association, Overseas Press Club of America and FCC Hong Kong Human Rights Press Awards.
Over the last 30 years, he has covered international events such as the Iran Iraq war, Palestinian Israeli conflict, East Timor independence, Tiananmen Square uprising, Rwandan massacre and the recent protests in Bangkok.
This is a fantastic opportunity to receive instruction from a renowned professional photographer.
With a maximum class size of 15, Coyne will look at focusing, exposure, composing and framing. Participants will also be given useful tips about photographing people and landscapes. By the end of the three-day course, participants will feel more confident about using their cameras and will see better photographic results.
JMSC MAP courses continue throughout May, June and July. Book now to avoid disappointment.
