The Master of Journalism programme exposed me to the multitude of skills expected of a modern journalist that goes beyond good storytelling: video journalism, understanding online misinformation, working with data and marketing your content. I joined the programme practically not knowing what doing journalism meant. But in just nine months, I was ready to report on stories with the journalistic rigour needed in a world where readers constantly question what they read.

The faculty at HKU Journalism are journalists themselves, from a variety of news organisations, from international agencies to TV networks. With no day in the newsroom being the same, the openness of the faculty to share their experiences in and after class helped me get an insight into life as a journalist, which ultimately helped me land a job at the South China Morning Post after being an intern there.
