MJ 2019, Jessie Pang, Correspondent, Reuters, and FCC Clare Hollingworth Fellow (2019-20)
The master’s programme in journalism (MJ) at JMSC helped me to become a multimedia journalist who’s able to work under intense situations.
At JMSC, you get so many hands-on opportunities to master different multimedia skills like video reporting, photography, broadcasting, podcasting and data journalism. The faculty members are all very friendly and their doors are always open for students after class. I was able to learn and improve my skill sets in such a short period of time. The class discussions on the ethical dilemma journalists might face have also helped me make better decisions at work.
While studying at JMSC, I began working at Reuters as an intern and got to work with some of the best journalists in Hong Kong. After graduation, I joined the Hong Kong Bureau as a correspondent with a focus on politics and general news and covered the unprecedented anti-extradition protests at the frontline. I also became one of the first winners of the FCC’s Clare Hollingworth Fellowship. I attribute the award to my teachers at JMSC and my colleagues at work. Without their guidance, I wouldn’t be who I am.
Overall, JMSC is a great journalism school and I hope you’ll enjoy learning here as much as I do!
