Francis Yin, a Master of Journalism student from mainland China, has had two papers he wrote for the JMSC’s Media Research Class accepted for presentation at two separate academic conferences this summer.

Yin will present a paper titled ‘Evolution of Media Policy and Political Pluralism of Media in China’ at the Asian Media Information and Communication (AMIC) Annual Conference in Hyderabad, India in June.

He will present another paper about how people in China are using the internet to change the media’s agenda and also to evade censorship at the Global Initiatives Symposium inTaipei, Taiwan in July.

“I have worked as a journalist in China for several years, so I am interested in the media’s circumstances in China, especially at a time of change,” said Yin.

“By doing this research, I could understand the media in China better and, by attending the conferences, I can also learn more about the media and communication in other countries.”

Yin hopes to continue his research as a PhD student and is currently applying for PhD programmes.

“Professor Miklos Sukosd and Doctor King-wa Fu taught us important theories and useful methods and how to combine them with our journalistic practice,” he said. “Other teachers at the JMSC also encouraged us to think about the media’s future in China in our classes.”
