Oct 18-22: Media Tech Skills Workshops

The JMSC is offering students workshop modules to enhance their media skills during reading week.

The classes are voluntary two-hour sessions for those who want to explore advanced features, or feel they need a quick introduction to certain tools.

They will be held Monday to Friday from 2-4pm during the week of October 18 – 22. The quota per class is for 15 students.

The five modules are:

1. Introduction to Blogging/Wordpress (Mon Oct 18, 2-4PM / DM LAB)
This module covers blogging technology and the open source blogging platform WordPress. We will setup a blog, customize your blog and explore the different ways of writing on WordPress. Recommended for students who do not have an ongoing blog or have never used a content management system. (Instructor: Kevin Lau)

2.Quick Hit Video Editting for the Web (Tues Oct 19, 2-4PM / DM LAB)
This module will put students through exercises that will increase their editing speed. A prerequisite for this course is video news production. (Instructor: Kevin Lau)

3.Basic Photography (Wed Oct 20, 2-4PM / DM LAB)
This module introduces students to the Digital SLR camera and how to operate it. This module is useful for students who do not understand exposure levels, shutter speed and basic Digital SLR operations. (Instructor: AJ Libunao)

4.Basic Photoshop (Thurs Oct 21, 2-4PM / DM LAB)
This module introduces students to Adobe Photoshop. It is useful for students who would like an introduction to the basic elements of editing photos and compressing for the web. (Instructor: AJ Libunao)

5.Advanced Video Editing Techniques (Fri Oct 22, 2-4PM / DM LAB)
This module is for students who have taken Video News Production and are looking to explore more advanced techniques in Final Cut Pro. This session will explore advanced filters and post production effects and the process of outputting for different mediums. (Instructor: Ka Ho Ng)
