Photojournalism class

Photography class

Whether you are a student, media professional or other professional, the JMSC has a course, seminar or workshop pitched at your level.

Take your first steps into the world of journalism or build on your existing skills while learning from some of the world’s leading media professionals.

The summer courses cover all media platforms, including traditional print journalism, TV and radio broadcasting, photo-journalism and new media. Some courses focus on particular areas of interest, such as commentary, financial journalism, investigative journalism, health journalism, defamation, libel and copyright issues. Other courses have a strong technical element, for example video editing on Final Cut Pro, basic audio recording using Adobe Audition 3, documentary video production and SLR camera classes.

Hone your writing skills, develop your online ability, learn how to take better photos, discover how to put together news reports, radio programmes and documentaries, all in a state-of-the-art setting. The JMSC uses the latest technology, equipment, software and editing systems, all of which are used within the industry.

Courses are taught by experienced journalists and scholars, all of whom have held senior positions in media organisations round the world. Many still report and produce output for organisations such as Reuters, The Daily Telegraph, CNN, The New York Times, ABC News, South China Morning PostNewsweek, BBC and The Hindu.

Founded in 1999, the Journalism and Media Studies Centre (JMSC) at the University of Hong Kong (HKU) offers professional journalism education at Hong Kong’s premier university in an exciting international environment. Leveraging its unique position at the crossroads of China, Asia and the West, the JMSC’s programmes and research have made it a focus for understanding the exciting changes underway in journalism throughout both the region and the world.
