Computational Media Studies

Internet research based on “big data” is an emerging area in the social science and journalism/media studies. It is recognized by the international research community as a frontier field of study that is in need new theoretical, methodological, and multi-disciplinary approaches. As increasing numbers of social inquiries are based or driven by human’s online behaviors, massive web and social media data are available by using computational data collection tools. Digital traces of individual behavior and contextual social pattern have also become more accessible to social science researcher. Global research community has acknowledged the need to develop a new research paradigm for training new scholars in the area of computational social science.
