1 September 2011Aug 25: MJ Orientation Day
This year’s incoming Master of Journalism students will have their orientation on Thursday, August 25, hosted by JMSC professors, faculty and alumni at the University’s Global Lounge.
The orientation includes a morning meet-and-greet between students and the professors and alumni and an introduction to the coursework. A buffet lunch follows, allowing for students to acquaint themselves with their respective advisers. The programme wraps up in the afternoon with an administrative briefing to aid in the students’ academic endeavours.
Recently graduated MJ alumni from the class of 2011 – Jennifer Jett, Richard Schuster, Eldes Tran, and Michelle Yun – will greet and share their experiences with the incoming class.
Diego Laje (MJ 2009), who received the prestigious Annenberg-Oxford Media Law Institute Scholarship during his studies at the JMSC, will also return to participate in the orientation.
“I’m looking forward to sharing my trial and errors with the incoming class, especially with those who are just starting out their careers in journalism,” reflected Yun on the upcoming event.
This year’s orientation will include a social event from 6 pm at Pier 7, organised by Kevin Lau and AJ Libunao, overlooking Victoria Harbour from the landmark Star Ferry pier.
“The social event is a nice way for MJ students from different graduating years to meet each other as we are part of a larger JMSC family,” Lau said.
