Cheryl Yuen

BJ 2020, Cheryl Yuen, Anchor/Reporter, TVB News

“I first developed interest in television news during my exchange semester, but it was the course Anchoring and Video News Writing offered by HKU Journalism that gave me the biggest push in taking up the role of a news anchor/reporter as a fresh graduate. I started off as an intern reporter at the Television Broadcasts Limited (TVB) News Channel, and turned part-time anchor/reporter during my final year. As a full-time anchor/reporter now, I host daily newscasts covering local, international and financial news, while ad-libbing live, breaking news when necessary. Recently, I am also hosting other mini programmes, including weather reports. Apart from working in the studio, I also have the chance to go out to do reporting and cover feature stories. I think the Bachelor of Journalism programme at HKU equips us with abilities to face different challenges in the fast-paced journalism industry.”

Cheryl double majored in Criminology and spent a semester abroad at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She interned with three organizations during her time at HKU–TVB, U Magazine and Hong Kong Economic Times. She is currently an anchor/reporter for TVB news and is constantly learning something new through what she is doing everyday.
