BJ 2024, Gigi Tang, Executive Officer, HKSAR Government

“One of the greatest strengths of HKU Journalism is its diverse and rich course content, which extends beyond the news industry. My favourite course throughout my studies was Strategic Communication, taught by a senior executive from FleishmanHillard, one of the leading international PR and marketing agencies. For our final project, we were tasked with designing a communication campaign and presenting it to real clients from major firms. Winning the prize and receiving excellent feedback from the clients was one of the happiest moments of my academic life. The wide variety of courses offered by HKU Journalism provides students with well-rounded insights and diverse career possibilities for the future.

In addition to academic support, JMSC has a well-developed internship and career network for its students. I had a clear goal of becoming a news anchor by my junior year. With the invaluable assistance of career counselor, I secured an internship at NowTV during my second summer. I had the opportunity to report on major events such as The Hong Kong Sevens and the Legislative Council Re-election. Following the internship, I continued as a part-time English reporter for nearly a year. These experiences not only enhanced my skills but also deepened my passion for journalism. Thanks to the solid foundation I received at JMSC, I was able to realize my dream of becoming a news anchor after graduation.”

Gigi double majored in Journalism and Criminology. She is currently working as an Executive Officer at HKSAR Government.
