9 May 20172017 Summer Institute for News Literacy Fellows in Asia to be held in Vietnam
The 2017 Summer Institute for News Literacy Fellows in Asia will be held in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, between 1 and 3 August 2017.
It is the first time that the Institute—a series of news literacy workshops targeted at media educators and practitioners from Southeast Asian countries―has been held in Vietnam.
“We’re very excited to be taking the Institute for News Literacy Fellows to Vietnam,” said Masato Kajimoto, Assistant Professor at the JMSC and the Institute’s main instructor.
“Our colleagues from the Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City (VNU-HCM) have been very active in this field,” he added. “I’m looking forward to working with them and improving our pedagogy together.”
The Institute for News Literacy Fellows in Asia, organised in collaboration with the Center for News Literacy at Stony Brook University in the United States, has been offering news literacy training to educators since 2012.
This summer’s Institute will be hosted by the Faculty of Journalism and Communication at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, part of VNU-HCM.
Applications from media practitioners and educators in Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Timor-Leste and Vietnam are welcomed in particular.
Places at the Institute are limited to 15 people and applicants will be selected according to their interests and potential contributions to the field.
Accommodation in the centre of HCM City, meals, teaching materials and transport around the city will be covered by the organisers. Attendees will only need to cover the cost of travelling to HCM City and back to their home country.
To apply to join the Institute, please fill out the online application form here and send a copy of your CV and, if you are not a Vietnamese citizen, a scan of your passport (ID page with passport number) to newsliteracyvietnam@gmail.com.
The application deadline is 1 July and invitations will be sent to selected participants from 5 July.
