Business sectors generally welcome the proposal for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Bridge. More transportation choices will decrease their costs and increase their competitiveness. However, different users have different concerns regarding toll charges that may apply to them.

"The west of the Pearl River Delta region is lagging behind the east for at least ten years..."

Tuan Chyau, Professor of Decisional Sciences and Managerial Economics Department of the Chinese University of Hong Kong. He agreed that linking western Pearl River Delta with Hong Kong will help it attract much more foreign investment.

Among the different sectors of the logistics business, truck drivers are most concerned about toll charges. Most of them are small and medium size businesses and any cost variation will deeply affect their profits.

For travel agents, however, toll charges will be shared by tourists in the same coach, and a bridge will be valuable as they can save much travelling time.

Travellers and commuters generally welcome the proposal as they will have an additional choice to travel to and from Hong Kong, Macau and western Pearl River Delta.

Connection with western Pearl River Delta can be further extended to western China and facilitate the latter's development in the future.

Hong Kong should become a gateway to the Pearl River Delta. This strategy should help it sustain its competitiveness as a logistics hub.
