Prof. Dr. Sylvia Rothe
Professor of AI in Media Production
University of Television and Film Munich, Germany
Dr. Sylvia Rothe began her academic career at Humboldt University in Berlin, where she studied mathematics and later worked as a research assistant. Shifting her focus to the arts, she ventured into documentary filmmaking, participating in the European Social Documentary training programme in 2011 — an experience that deepened her appreciation for innovative storytelling techniques.
As her career progressed, Dr. Rothe developed a strong interest in the intersection of artificial intelligence (AI) and film. She has since mentored student projects in virtual and augmented reality, led internship initiatives, and explored AI’s practical applications in film production, from analysing film data to experimenting with deepfake technologies. Her research aims to integrate diverse AI methodologies to advance cinematic storytelling by synergising text, audio, and visual elements.
