Nov 19: Talk – Political Participation and Media Use in HK and China

Dr. King-wa Fu, Research Assistant Professor at the JMSC, will give a talk on political participation and media use in Hong Kong and China on Friday, 19 November from 12-1pm.

The seminar will take place in the Shum Wai Yau Reading Room, Eliot Hall, HKU. It is part of a series of research seminars the JMSC is hosting this semester.

Dr. Fu will give an overview of the current debates on the relationship between political participation and media use and suggest some key research agenda, particularly focusing on mainland China and Hong Kong.

He will summarise two of his research studies with preliminary findings. First, political participation of the “Post-80s Generation” in Hong Kong and Beijing: a comparative study. Second, Understanding and Analyzing Online Public Opinion in “Hong Kong Cyberspace”.

Dr. Fu’s research focuses on mental health/suicide and the media, health communication, youth and the Internet, research methods and statistics for journalism. He has a PhD from the JMSC, an MA in Social Sciences and a MPhil in Engineering from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. He obtained an undergraduate degree in Engineering from HKU. He was previously a journalist at the Hong Kong Economic Journal.
