Brian Rhoads has been a journalist and newsroom leader in North America and Asia for more than three decades, starting at local newspapers in California. He joined Reuters in 1996 and served as China Bureau Chief in Beijing during the 2000s, Americas Managing Editor in New York from 2008 to 2010, and later Asia Managing Editor in Hong Kong.

He moved to Hong Kong’s South China Morning Post as Managing Editor in 2012, then did a brief stint as a communications specialist for Asia Pacific at HSBC. He is currently a leader writer and member of the Post’s Editorial Board, and a lecturer in communications and journalism.

He graduated from the FT Non-Executive Director Programme in 2024. He is a graduate of Stanford University.
