Three JMSC students were honoured with prizes at the 2011 University of Hong Kong Student Prize Ceremony.

The students, Lisa Onland (BJ Year 2), Temily Tianmay Gopan (BJ Year 2) and Alice Zhang (MJ 2011), scooped six prizes among them at the university’s annual ceremony for high achievers last weekend.

Zhang received a William F. Woo Memorial Scholarship, while Gopan was awarded a K.K.  Ho Scholarship. Onland was given four prizes – something of a record.

“It’s a real honour to be recognised by the university and to be selected as the recipient for such a number of awards,” said Onland, who received a K.K. Ho Scholarship, a Lee Shau Kee Scholarship, a Peter Whyte Award and a Sir Man Kam Lo/Jardine Scholarship.

“I am extremely grateful to the donors who contribute to this celebration of student achievement and believe everyone at the event was incredibly deserving. I only wish I had been able to make it to the ceremony myself!”

Lisa Onland (BJ Year 2)

Onland is currently on exchange at McGill University in Montreal, Canada, for one semester.

“I am grateful to the sponsor that provided the prize,” said Zhang.

“Actually it’s not just a scholarship but means a lot more to me. It has inspired me to pursue my journalism career and I’ve found a position at Asia Weekly, a brilliant Chinese magazine.”

The Student Prize Ceremony awards scholarships each year to the university’s highest achievers.
