Finding a job or internship at a large media organisation is always a challenge, but recent graduate Grace Huang (MJ 2013) found that taking online journalism and reporting and writing classes really helped her build up her foundation.

“As a recent graduate, I don’t have a lot of journalism experience, and taking those introductory classes really set a really good foundation for writing and reporting,” she said.

She was able to find a winter internship at CNN Travel while she was a Master of Journalism student at HKU’s Journalism and Media Studies Centre, writing, pitching stories and learning their CMS system.

“For online journalism, especially with my internship at CNN Travel, it was very helpful to know what the online medium requires of you and how we can apply what I’ve learned in the classroom to real life.”
