Hong Kong: an international hub in Asia.

At present, the main way of going from Hong Kong to Macao and Zhuhai is by sea. The high speed ferry trip takes approximately an hour. According to Gordon Wu's proposal, the bridge will possibly shorten travelling time by 30 minutes.

Hopes are that the proposed bridge will boost the flow of people and goods in the delta region and benefit the tourism and logistics industries of Hong Kong. It will also enhance the integration of Hong Kong's economy with the Pearl River Delta (PRD) region.

According to government statistics, there are about 800 sailings, 140 flights, 35 train connections and 27,000 vehicle crossings between Hong Kong and mainland China every day. Its natural sea port and modernized airport makes Hong Kong an international hub in Asia. Since the Mainland is Hong Kong's second-largest source of foreign direct investment, a bridge is increasingly important for the future development of the HKSAR and Guangdong region.
