Gary Ahuja has been a resident of the Tsim Sha Tsui for 38 years. He has contested in the four-yearly District Council elections since 1985 and has since won four times with the most recent win in 1999.

The first time he contested, he said, he only knew about the District Council elections a few days before the nomination day. “

However, he says being a District Councilor has changed his life direction, with an interest for public service.

“I want to see a smile on everybody’s face”, he said as he talked about the thing that motivates him to be a District Councilor.

He says that he prioritizes District Council work over the matters of his company as he readies his two sons to take over his business. He thinks that people should receive any help they need and by that he keeps his office open to all.

Gary has organized many activities in the past to bring together members of the community in Hong Kong, with recent examples such as for the 10th anniversary celebration of the establishment of the HKSAR as well as dinners for the Indian community residing in Hong Kong

He believes that for a non-Chinese candidate to win is difficult, as it entails experience as well as having supporters.
