There are good reporters and good writers. Most professional journalists tend to fall into one or the other category. Rare are those who achieve distinction in both. Nevertheless, to succeed as a journalist, it is necessary to be competent in both reporting and writing.
In this course, we will explore the qualities that define a good reporter and learn the skills necessary to write well. Though it is somewhat artificial, I will serve as your news editor, you will be the reporters, and the media lab will be our newsroom. At the end of the course, you will have learned how to recognize and chase news sources and turn them into news stories. You should learn enough here to survive in a real newsroom.
