Week 1 notes
Thank you to all who attended Week 1 before the holiday break.
In class, we reviewed the syllabus and the course’s goals. We talked about the history and development of the news industry and watched some relevant video material. Here is a summary of that material, with links to the videos we watched:

Welcome to JMSC 0051 TV News Writing
This blog will serve as the primary means of recording and organizing the course content. Students are encouraged to check this site at least once a week.
This TV News Writing course is designed to introduce the fundamentals of video news writing and production as practiced at an international level. This is a practical course which includes frequent writing assignments to be done during class time and as homework.
Writing is at the core of all news and documentary production and this course provides intensive practical training in the unique writing techniques of video news and storytelling. Material covered in JMSC 0051 will compliment and expand on principles taught in JMSC 0052 Television News Production.
