Hi class,
We have come to the final week of the 6001 news reporting and writing course. Continue reading
Please see the writing assignment on the left side of this page. Video has been updated to include both Obama’s arrival in Myanmar and his arrival at ASSK’s home. You may mix and match shots from both clips in the OC/VO anchor script.
To reclarify — the assignment is to write a 30 second OC/VO (ON CAM/VIDEO) script based on the CNN, Reuters & Bloomberg material provided in the link “Week 12 Writing Assignment”, and use the two video links provided. All this material pertains to Obama’s visit to Myanmar. (You are writing the story for broadcast right after Obama has completed his visit with ASSK. He has not yet spoken at Yangon University.)
Then, write a package script based on the AP shot sheet provided in class, and the video link to its matching video.
The INTRO for that package should attempt, in some way, to link the two stories. The package intro will create a natural flow from the “today news” about Obama’s visit to the “sidebar”, “issue story” about one of the various rebel groups the Myanmar government is dealing with.
Also, please write a TEASE for the two stories, which should promote the fact that these Myanmar stories are coming up later in the news program. For the tease VO, you may choose any video from the “today” video and the package video.
Deadline: Thursday at 12 noon. If you have any questions about it, please don’t hesitate to email me at mwalsh@hku.hk
Good luck!
The writing assignment for today, due at midnight tomorrow (Tuesday night), is detailed in the left side column of this website, The Class.
Please see: Week 11 Writing Assignment.
The assignment focuses on the storytelling technique we discussed in class – Particular To General.
Today’s writing assignment is to write a package from the Philippines Floods material you were given in class. Please see the link to Week 10 writing assignment on the left side of this page. You’ll find the assignment details and the link to video that was here.
Please also see the Week 10 lecture summary. We will review this material and add to it in this week’s labs. You may be assigned to finish writing the Philippines Floods package DURING this week’s lab, so please look over the video and shot sheet and try to get started on your script. Come prepared with questions.
Thanks, Matt
We will not be learning about how to apply make-up for appearing on video, but we will attempt to condense the content covered in the first four classes, and preview next Monday’s lecture. If you have been unable to attend any classes thus far, or would like to review the material, tonight at 730pm in the Digital Media Lab in Eliot Hall is your chance to catch up.
I look forward to seeing any and all who would like to attend.
Matt
I hope everyone in 6001 has a restful yet productive reading week.
1) As mentioned in class, I will be available at certain times for individual appointments during reading week, so please email me to make arrangments, if you’d like.
2) A “make up” class will be offered Thursday evening at 730pm until TBD for anyone who has missed classes in the first two weeks.
3) And, please read all three of the following links. We’ll discuss these articles when we return from reading week. Continue reading
