JMSC Journalist Scholarship

The JMSC Journalist Scholarship fully or partially supports mainland students reading for a Master of Journalism at The University of Hong Kong. It shall be awarded to mainland Chinese journalists or students who:

• are Mainland China residents;
• have maintained consistently good performance in the news industry and/or in academic results;
• have enthusiasm towards journalism and aspire to pursue a career in journalism;
• are in a financial situation which does not permit postgraduate studies;
• are committed to Mainland China

JMSC Overseas Talent Scholarship

The JMSC Overseas Talent Scholarship fully or partially supports overseas students reading for a Master of Journalism at The University of Hong Kong. It shall be awarded to overseas journalists or students who:

• are non Hong Kong residents
• have maintained consistently good performance in the news industry and/or in academic results;
• have enthusiasm towards journalism and aspire to pursue a career in journalism

Lee Kam Woon & Shum Shuk Yuen Education Fund

Mrs Lee Shum Shuk Yuen (BA 1953) has donated $1 million to the Journalism and Media Studies Centre to further the education of future journalists and media professionals.

SCMP Wah Kiu Yat Po Journalism Scholarship Fund

This scholarship has been set up by the Journalism and Media Studies Centre with cash donations from the Wah Kiu Yat Po Readers’ Loan Fund for Post-Secondary School Students. The fund is operated by the South China Morning Post.

Shum Wai Yau Journalism Education Fund

The descendants of the late Mr Shum Wai Yau have donated $1 million to the Journalism and Media Studies Centre to further the education of future journalists and media professionals.

The HKUGA Journalism Scholarship Fund

The Hong Kong University Graduates Association Journalism Scholarship supports students from Hong Kong, the Mainland and overseas studying for a Master of Journalism degree at The University of Hong Kong.  The HKUGA scholarship also provides financial subsidies to JMSC students who have been selected for unpaid internshisp and scholarships, and those who have been selected to partake in overseas training programmes or conferences that encourage a career in journalism.

Vicky Shek Zeitlin Memorial Scholarship

Mr Arnold Zeitlin donated a total of US$67,500, accompanied by a matching grant of US$62,500 from The Freedom Forum, USA, to the University of Hong Kong Foundation for Educational Development and Research. Scholarships are awarded to students from Mainland China or journalists who have contributed to news freedom, and who are pursuing programmes offered by the Journalism and Media Studies Centre.

William F. Woo Memorial Scholarship

The William F. Woo Memorial Scholarship benefits Mainland Chinese students at HKU and Stanford University.   It was set up by friends of family members of the late Professor Woo, who was a visiting professor at the HKU Journalism and Media Studies Centre and a journalism professor at Stanford.
