(You’re looking at the distribution by gender of the users who retweeted this month’s top entry on Sina Weibo in Hong Kong, that is, the news of Hong Kong actress Miriam Yeung’s wedding some two weeks ago.)
What is in fact surprising is that most or all of the top retweeted statuses were entertainment-related (in majority by celebrities from Hong Kong or Taiwan) and shared similar, if not more pronounced, gender imbalance. Perhaps we need to look into this further, but the most “gender-equal” popularly retweeted status this month was the NASA rumour that turned out to be much ado for nothing, and women still outnumbered men two to one.
