Copyright & Plagiarism

Please adhere to the following guidelines in doing all your assignments for this class:

TEXT: When doing your assignments, you can quote a paragraph from another website if you credit the original source and link back to it.

PHOTOS: If you are using a photo that you did not take yourself, you cannot use copyrighted photos unless you obtain permission to use them from the original source. In other words, if you copy a photo from another website and republish it on your blog without permission from the original publisher, you are violating Hong Kong copyright law.

The exception is if the original photo was published under a Creative Commons license which allows others to use the work as long as they credit the original source. In this case you must still credit the original source and not pass off the photo as your own!

VIDEO AND AUDIO: Same goes for video and audio. You MUST NOT use copyrighted music or videos without permission, unless they are clearly published by the original artist/studio under a Creative Commons license. To do otherwise is highly illegal!

Many Flickr users publish their works under Creative Commons licenses. You can search for them and other CC works here.

If you take photos from other places and pass them off as your own in your assignments for this class, it will be treated as a case of plagiarism. Plagiarism is taken very seriously at the JMSC.
