Good luck everybody!

3

Thanks to all of you for your hard work this semester. Hong Kong Stories is looking good and has been getting noticed.

For those of you who are graduating this summer, best of luck to all of you. This blog will remain accessible and the resources posted on it will be added to the “Resources” and “Toolbox” pages. So feel free to come back and refer to them as you go forward in your work.

DEADLINES: Just in case there is any confusion.
The schedule for your story deadlines is here.
The list of edit team assignments is here.
And the calendar showing everybody’s responsibilities and due dates is here.

ON YOUR DUE DATE:
I will be expecting an e-mail from you on the final due date of your project. I must receive the e-mail on your duedate in order for your project to be considered on time. I will acknowledge when I receive it.

In addition to letting me know that your project is ready to be published live on the website, I need the following information from you in that e-mail:
- What exact order you want your story sections to appear in. THIS IS IMPORTANT
- If you’d like any text to appear at the top of your story page like this, give me a couple of sentences or a short paragraph.

CONTENT:
As you have learned in other classes, a good work of journalism does not usually start with a history lesson or a list of facts and figures. The most engaging and successful way to start a story is by introducing a human “character.” The same is true in online journalism.

QUESTIONS?
MJ’s will have a chance to go over more questions on Friday. People have been e-mailing me and leaving questions in the “shoutbox.” But if you have sent me urgent questions I haven’t answered, please e-mail me again.

Lots of how-to tutorials here. I will be in the DM Lab from 6-8 on Wednesday for anybody needing help.

SOUNDSLIDES: The Soundslides program is now installed in the two computers in the front row at the left of the podium in the DM lab. It allows you to import JPEG’s and MP3 files to combine photos and audio. As I’ve mentioned before this is only for the advanced and ambitious. Once you have exported your project you need to send it to me, and I will convert it in a video file (which can only be done on a mac), which you can then embed into Joomla as part of your project.
