Getting Started
To start a blog on this system, somebody with admin privileges to the main JMSC Blogs system needs to give you access. When they enter you into the system, you will receive an e-mail that looks like this:
Click on the link to the JMSC Blogs landing page. (You can always go back to it at http://jmsc.hku.hk/blogs)
Type in your username and the temporary password given to you in the e-mail.
Click “Login” and then the page will look like this, with a link that says “Create a new weblog”
Click on “create a new weblog” and you get this page:
Now you can type in your blog’s web address and title.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Once you designate your blog’s address that is the permanent web address for your blog and it CANNOT CHANGE.
(The title, however, can be changed any time.)
Click “create blog” and the link to your new blog will appear like so:
Click on the link for your blog’s address and you’ll see your new blog:
Click on the “Site Admin” link in the bottom right-hand column to get into your admin area:
The first time you go here, before you do anything else click on “Update your profile or change your password.”
Doing so will take you to this page:
Fill in your full name and change your password to something you can remember.
After clicking “Update Profile,” you can go to the drop-down menu and change your “byline” display name to your real name rather than your login name, if you want.
Now it’s time to set up your blog’s look and feel by changing the Theme. Go to the “Presentation” section and click on the “Themes” tab. From there you need to follow the special Courseblog Theme Instructions.
Once you have set up your theme, you need to make sure that your blog’s privacy and discussion options are set the way you want.
Go to the “Options” section and click on the “General” tab. You will get this page:
There you can change the blog title and tagline any time (but not the web address).
Then, staying in the “Options” section click on the “Privacy” tab. You can decide whether you want people to find your blog through Google and other search engines or not, or whether you just want it to be found by people to whom you give the address:
Now go to the “Discussion” tab to select whether you want people to be able to post comments directly or whether you want to moderate comments, etc.:
