Antiwave and podcasting

Flypig from antiwave.net
Started in 1995, the first twenty-four hours after the website went online got tens of thousands of hits from all over the world, with many media professionals following

What is Flypig?
Like his antiwave partner Pingke, he has a background in traditional/broadcast media

What is Podcast?
iPOD+broadCAST=podcast

On American podcast websites, there are countless clips of all shorts: news, tv shows, npr, bbc etc.
For a long time, these things had to be downloaded with a third-party application (Napster, eMule)
But Apple made an amazing move with the opening of its iTunes

Podcasting in China isn’t so popular, and may not be completely suited for China
Starting with the name, 播客, which is hard to understand and has many different meanings (ie. Sina has given its video channel the same name.)

Antiwave is run with Moveable Type; it’s biggest problem at present is where to store the volumes of podcasts.

Many people in China prefer to listen to podcasts on the spot, as opposed to subscribing to the feed. Internet speed is also another factor.

Many people ask Flypig and Pingke what they use to produce their podcasts. Simple: Adobe Audition, a microphone, and a [I don't know what this is...a synthesizer? A squelch reducer?

How to be antiwave?
1. Keep humorous
2. Aim for audience in media circles
3. Everyone loves music in their podcasts

In April this year, Pingke and Flypig created a very clear and well-designed "poster" for their own blogs, showing what each podcast had been about, all high-production values
In May, antiwave came online, and instantly went viral like Resident Evil and I can see why these guys are so badass cool

ANd now we listen to Pingke read some Duanzi:

[Pingke reading his duanzi which splices in some Robert Scoble at the end]

One hour of Pod takes eight hours of preparation, from splicing to translating to converting

They got so busy with antiwave that they found they had no time to do any of the other things they wanted to do, and of course the antiwave won

They redesigned the site in early 2007

At the same time switching from 恶搞(parody, spoof) to 正搞(serious pod)

with the programs:
人民大会谈 which is a great joke if you get it, and has interviewed both Jeremy Goldkorn and Keso
and 超级难说(Hard to Say) which with a comprehensive, idealistic approach, looks at social issues
and 新网络60秒 (…)

Business partners include print media, portal websites, and personal media

Many poeple make the observation that Pingke and Flypig are very professional and make quite v professional pod
But Flypig emphasizes taht this top quality equipment aren’t the most important
Once a voice gets compressed to mp3 it’s all about the same
