immediately.

This job involves working closely with a resident foreign
correspondent, and with a broader team of journalists during the
period of the Olympic Games.

Daily tasks include summarizing news from Chinese-language media,
arranging interviews, managing the office, and providing daily (and
even hourly) news tips from newspapers, television and the internet.
Candidates must search out news from a variety of online and print
sources, conduct their own interviews when needed, and attend and
summarize news conferences.

Associate Editor, Classified Post

Classified Post is looking for a proactive and creative associate editor who is also a good manager.

Reporting to the editor, the deputy will be responsible for producing the editorial content of Classified Post and its website at a high standard, on budget and on time.

Responsibilities will include:
- Planning content, reporting, editing and proofreading as required
- Managing the production of a team of five as well as offering training and team building
- Developing and improving the product with new ideas for stories and columns
- Constant monitoring of competitors and similar overseas publications
- Coming up with ideas for booklets for our seminars and conferences, and seeing the booklets through the production process.
- Developing the pool of freelance correspondents and contributors

The ideal candidate should be creative, energetic, hard working, sociable and meticulous with an eye for detail, and should have:
- University education in journalism or related disciplines
- 7 years’ reporting or editorial experience in the media or publishing industry
- Interest and knowledge in management and management theories
- Good writing and editing skills at native English level

Hands-on PC and Chinese word processing skills are an asset, as is knowledge of Cantonese and Mandarin. Work experience in or knowledge of the recruitment market is an advantage.

IHT Assistant Business Editor, Asia

The Herald Trib is looking for an experienced, breaking news reporter to fill a new position, Assistant Business Editor, Asia. A key aspect of the job is writing bylined breaking business news for IHT.com, which would ultimately appear in the print edition of the IHT, and would be on offer for use by the IHT’s parent company on nytimes.com and in The New York Times. Your task is to focus on the biggest business stories of the day not the routine run of business developments.

 

As an assistant editor you are expected to contribute to the direction of our revamped iht.com/biz Web site by overseeing two online Web editors in Hong Kong who are making sure that the site is constantly updated with breaking news, video and multimedia. Excellent news judgment, writing
skills and speed are key qualities for the job. The individual would report to the business editor in Asia, also based in Hong Kong.

Duty:

  • Reporting to the Associate Editor of Special Reports, the incumbent will report on general topics, including social issues, finance, human interest, services and products and conduct research for some of the supplements.
  • The right candidate should understand newspaper design as responsibilities include organising photo shoots and suggesting photos for publication.
  • Those having an understanding of finance, the property market and/or education will be at an advantage.
