With applications for the 2017–2018 Master of Journalism (MJ) programme now open, the JMSC will be holding an Information Session for prospective students.
The event will be held in the Digital Media Lab of Eliot Hall, the JMSC’s headquarters at The University of Hong Kong campus, on Thursday 1 December at 6.30 p.m.
Keith Richburg, Director of the JMSC, will give an introductory presentation covering the programme’s structure, courses and entry requirements. MJ hopefuls will also get a taste of what it’s like to be a live news anchor through a mobile TV demonstration, and see the equipment available for students to use during the course of their studies, including the JMSC’s brand new broadcast studio and production facility.
The JMSC’s MJ programme takes in between 70 and 80 students a year from a variety of countries and professional backgrounds, and is taught by a faculty of experienced journalists and media scholars. Many JMSC students have come from other professions and have taken the course to embark on new careers in journalism. Graduates have been hired by the world’s leading media organisations, including Bloomberg, CNN, and The Wall Street Journal.
The Centre’s teaching philosophy reflects the needs of both traditional journalism and today’s changing media landscape, preparing students to practise accurate, honest and high-quality journalism on any and all media platforms.
The programme offers a wide range of elective courses, including business journalism, public health reporting, covering China, international reporting and documentary filmmaking. A course on TV news anchoring is also being offered for the first time in Spring 2017.
