JMSC Alum Publishes New Fiction Set in India

D20110245-114JMSC alum Reenita Malhotra Hora (MJ 2011) has just published a new novel, “Operation Mom – How I got my mother a life and a man,” a humorous story set in Mumbai about a young adult who embarks on a mission to get her single mother dating again.

A broadcast journalist and writer based in Hong Kong, Hora is the author of four non-fiction books and two novels. “I had wanted to break out of non-fiction for a long time and had trouble getting out of the ‘structured-journalist-style-of-thinking-box,’” she said. “So my first fiction novel, Arya’s Chronicles, a fantasy fiction story for kids, took forever.”

Her new book marks another departure from her daily work as a journalist. “I’ve always been privy to the humor of dysfunction at home and unleashed some of that in several first-person stories for the SCMP Family Post when it existed,” she said. “I decided to use that same style to write this fiction book. And it is fiction, although I say that fiction is nothing but twisted reality.”

Hora, a financial journalist (and Ayurveda clinician), produces and presents Money For Nothing, a live daily radio show about finance and investing, on RTHK Radio 3.

Her new book is available in Hong Kong bookstores Bookazine, Dymocks, and online through Amazon.
