Leo Goodstadt, Chief Policy Advisor to the Hong Kong government from 1989 to 1997, will give a public talk organised by the JMSC on Friday, May 27, 2011.

Leo Goodstadt

The talk has the same title as Goodstadt’s latest book: Reluctant Regulators: How the West Created and China Survived the Global Financial Crisis.

Goodstadt will discuss the research process behind the writing of the book.

Best known for his service as chief policy advisor to the Hong Kong government, Goodstadt has enjoyed a long and distinguished connection with The University of Hong Kong and with journalism.

In 1964, two years after he arrived in Hong Kong as a Commonwealth Scholar, Goodstadt was appointed a Lecturer in Economics at HKU. Two years later, he joined the Far Eastern Economic Review as Deputy Editor, a position he held until 1976 when he embarked on a new career as a consultant economist.

He also served as Hong Kong Correspondent for The Times of London, and for 10 years he hosted a public affairs programme on local broadcaster ATV. In 2001, HKU awarded Goodstadt with an Honorary University Fellowship.
