JMSC Summer Programme in Shanghai: Career Discovery in Communications

The JMSC is offering a unique three-week summer programme in Shanghai this summer called Career Discovery in Communications.

The course aims to enhance the creative power and communication ability of young people by exposing them to the fast changing world of information technology.

Through hands-on exercises and classroom instruction in the use of audio and video media tools, the course will help prepare students for their college application and future careers.

The course will be taught by professors from Hong Kong University and media professionals who have worked for leading international media organisations. All teachers have extensive experience of working with young people at both university and high school level.

The three weeks will comprise of lectures on the history of and current developments in communications; studio work; workshops and lab work in English writing, editing and publishing, documentary video production, photo storytelling and multimedia design; and field trips to explore and document the rich history and cultural environment of Shanghai.

Participants who successfully complete the programme will be able to produce an individual portfolio of multimedia work created under the supervision of JMSC teaching staff; acquire multimedia skills that will be useful for course and project work in any disciplinary area of study at university level; enhance their understanding of communication processes and skills for social and career development; and receive a certificate of attendance issued by the JMSC, The University of Hong Kong.

It is suitable for senior high school students on the Chinese mainland, Hong Kong and abroad. College students who want to have a rich and challenging experience in communications are also welcome.

The programme is conducted in English. Participants should have basic competency in English.

Dates: June 27-July 15, 2011, Monday through Friday, 09:30-16:30
Course Fee: HK$10,500
Location: HKU Shanghai Study Centre, 298 North Suzhou Road, Hongkou District, Shanghai, China
Eligibility: Form 5 to 7 students from Local/Mainland/Overseas (16 or above) and undergraduates from universities.
