This is a six-session training for journalists and designers about creating a collective, efficient and creative climate in the newsroom.  The course will guide both by demonstrating successful ways of working together in a newsroom and practical exercises in Illustrator and InDesign. We will mostly work with paper and pen and through conversations and sketches find simple solutions to present complex information that will be easy for the readers to understand.

This course is a six‐session practical guide for working journalists and designers interested in developing the skills to create Business and Finance charts and information graphics.  The course will provide the foundation in understanding numerical information and financial indicators, working with charts, visual storytelling and the process of designing and editing engaging information graphics. We will learn simple and advanced Excel and Illustrator techniques and demonstrate those skills in practical exercises, including an advanced hands-on project.

Hours: 6 full days 9:30–17:00

Language of Instructions: English with Mandarin translations

Course Fee: HK$8,600 (HK$8,000 for SND members) *Fee covers the cost of the program in Shanghai, excluding flights, accommodations & meals. JMSC has enlisted Shanghai The New World International Travel Service to book hotel reservations, arrange 6-day meals service and activities for all participants.  See below “Accommodations and Meals” for instructions.

All non Shanghai locals are requested to book their accommodations at New Asia Hotel through the travel agency we enlisted, adjacent to the Shanghai Study Centre. We have reserved the upper level remodeled rooms, and the package will include breakfast and Wi-Fi connection and activities.
