Diane Stormont has worked as a journalist in Asia since 1981, mostly for Reuters; her last posting here was as Hong Kong Bureau Chief.
Her favourite story was the Hong Kong handover. Her worst assignment was the civil war in Sri Lanka. She developed an aversion to tear gas in Seoul, to teenagers with automatic weapons in the Philippines and to thugs, whether uniformed, sunglassed, besuited and/or armed with guns or writs.
In late 1997 she established an internet and editorial consultancy. Over the years she filed freelance reports for a range of publications including the Daily Telegraph, The Economist, the Daily Deal and Lloyd’s List Maritime Asia. She also served as an online consultant for a number of private sector media, political and economic research institutions.
Diane was President of the Hong Kong Foreign Correspondents’ Club from 1998-99 and President of the Seoul Foreign Correspondents’ Club from 1991-92.
She is a graduate of University College London (BSc) and HKU (MJ).
