John Young is former associate director of the JMSC. Before coming to HKU, he served as the Deputy Director of California’s Office of Trade and Investment for China and Hong Kong.
Prior to that, he served as Special Assistant and Counsel to San Francisco Mayor Willie L. Brown Jr. He oversaw the development of the mayor’s first annual budget, implementing legislative and administrative actions that enabled the Brown administration to transform the previous administration’s budget deficit to a budget surplus.
He is also an experienced freelance journalist. He has a Juris Doctor degree from Stanford Law School, and a BA in Political Science and East Asian Studies from University of California at Berkeley.
